Graduation ceremonies are held at the UNSW Kensington campus three times per year in March, August and December. To be eligible to attend, your degree must be conferred during the following periods:
- March graduations: November, December, January
- August graduations: February, March, April, May, June
- December graduations: July, August, September, October.
You will receive an email invitation closer to your ceremony period with specific details about your ceremony.
-
The graduation ceremonies schedule will become available eight weeks before the ceremony period.
Please be aware that these proposed dates are subject to change.
-
Your $250 graduation fee includes:
- Up to three guest tickets*
- Hire of your academic dress
- A trencher (or bonnet for PhD graduates) for you to keep
- A digital copy of your professional stage photo
- A livestream of your ceremony
- An exclusive post-ceremony celebration, including refreshments, entertainment and photo opportunities.
*The maximum number of guest tickets per graduate is not guaranteed and may vary due to venue capacity constraints. UNSW reserves the right to adjust ticket availability ahead of each graduation round.
-
If you have confirmed your attendance and paid your graduation fee but can no longer attend your ceremony, please contact Reed Events as soon as possible.
You may be eligible for a refund if you notify Reed Events before your ceremony period begins. Refunds are processed within two weeks of the ceremony period ending.
-
If you miss the RSVP deadline, you will be unable to attend a ceremony and will not be automatically invited to future ceremonies.
-
Each graduate will receive up to three guest tickets during the RSVP process via the Reed Events portal. Guest tickets will be sent to your nominated email address.
Children are welcome. Infants who do not require a seat do not need a ticket. If you cannot access your tickets, please contact Reed Events.
Additional tickets are not available, however all ceremonies are livestreamed for guests who cannot attend. Graduates will receive the livestream link closer to the ceremony day.
-
If you're not attending a graduation ceremony, you'll still need to RSVP via the Reed Events portal to let us know.
In the portal, you can select one of the following:
- "No - I cannot attend and will not attend a ceremony in the future"
- "Defer - I wish to defer my ceremony"
If you choose to defer, please note that deferrals are only permitted once and for one ceremony period only. This means:
- If you were invited to the March ceremonies, you may only defer to the August round
- If you were invited to the August ceremonies, you may only defer to the December round
- If you were invited to the December ceremonies, you may only defer to the March round.
We've updated our graduations policy, which means that from 2026 onwards, graduates will need to attend their ceremony within their allocated graduation period, or they may choose one permitted deferral.
- "No - I cannot attend and will not attend a ceremony in the future"
-
We will contact eligible students via email and SMS when the RSVP portal opens.
If you've recently changed your email or mobile number, update your personal details in myUNSW. If your details are correct but you haven't received anything, check your junk and spam folders.
The RSVP window is open for two weeks only and ceremony places are secured on a first-come, first-served basis. To avoid missing out, we recommend discussing ceremony preferences with your family and peers before RSVPs open. Once you have registered and paid, ceremony changes are not possible.
-
To log into the Reed Events Portal, you'll need your:
- UNSW zID (zid@ad.unsw.edu.au) and password
- Microsoft Authenticator App downloaded on your phone
If you are having trouble logging into Reed Events, please first try resetting your UNSW password.
If login issues persist, please contact The Nucleus: Student Hub.
-
Please provide:
- Name pronunciation (to ensure your name is read correctly on stage)
- Guest ticket details (name and email)
- Academic dress hire requirements
- Accessibility requirements (for yourself and/or your guests)
- PhD and Doctoral students should also provide supervisor emails (so they receive an invitation to your ceremony).
-
You will be invited to register for the ceremony hosted by the faculty that your program belongs to.
During the RSVP process, most graduates will see multiple ceremony options to choose from. However, some graduates will be allocated to only one ceremony because of their award.
Securing attendance at a ceremony is on a first-come, first-served basis. Your attendance at a ceremony is not secured until you have completed the RSVP process and received a confirmation email.
Please note that once a ceremony reaches capacity, it will be removed from the RSVP portal, so it's important to confirm your place as soon as possible. After you have registered and paid for your graduation, you will not be able to change to a different ceremony.
-
If you would like to graduate with friends or classmates, we recommend discussing your preferred ceremony before registration opens so you can coordinate your choices. You can view the ceremony schedule in advance.
Please note that after you have registered and paid for your graduation, you will not be able to change to a different ceremony.
-
Graduation ceremonies are hosted by faculties, not by individual schools. You'll attend one graduation ceremony even if you are in a dual degree program (e.g. Arts/Law or Commerce/Science). You'll be allocated to the ceremony of the faculty that administers your program.
If you are completing a dual program, each program is treated as a separate award with its own conferral date. If both programs are completed and conferred at the same time, you will receive one ceremony invitation, not two.
Example:
If you complete a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws dual program and the Faculty of Law & Justice is your primary faculty, you will be invited to the Law & Justice ceremony. Both program titles will be read out together because they are being conferred at the same time.If you have further questions about your dual program graduation, please contact The Nucleus: Student Hub.
-
Your Bachelor's and Honours programs are treated as separate awards, each with their own completion date, conferral date, testamur and graduation ceremony.
You can choose whether to attend:
- The ceremony for your Bachelor's program
- The ceremony for your Honours program
- Both - it's completely up to you.
Example:
If you finish your Bachelor of Engineering program in 2025 and decide not to attend that ceremony, then complete your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in 2026 and attend the Honours ceremony, only your highest and most recent award (the Honours program) will be read out on the day.If you have any further questions about your Honours program graduation, please contact The Nucleus: Student Hub.
-
To receive your physical testamur after conferral, you must complete the graduation RSVP process. This applies whether you plan to attend a ceremony or not.
Once RSVPs have closed, a physical copy of your testamur will be mailed to you. Please ensure you provide us with your correct mailing address during the RSVP process.
-
Contact The Nucleus: Student Hub if:
- You cannot log in
- The Reed Events portal is showing incorrect information
- There are no ceremonies available to select.
Contact Reed Events if you:
- Did not receive a confirmation email
- Have questions about refunds
- Have questions about guest tickets.
-
Your academic dress hire is included in your graduation fee. You can confirm your gown requirements when you register through the Reed Events portal. On your graduation day, visit the Academic Dress Collection point at your scheduled collection time to pick up your gown.
If you would like to purchase your academic dress at an additional cost, please contact the Arc Grad Shop directly to organise purchase and collection.
-
Please bring your mobile phone with the Reed Events app downloaded and ready to use. You'll be required to use the app throughout the day.
Download the app on the Apple Store or Google Play.
-
On your graduation day, you'll be fitted for your academic dress before your ceremony. You'll have the chance to take photos in your academic dress before and after your ceremony.
For the ceremony, you'll be allocated a seat to ensure you and your fellow graduates cross the stage in the correct order. Your seat number will be available on the Reed Events app.
Want to know more about what to expect on your graduation day?
-
Yes you can, however we ask that you do not cross the centre aisle or get in the way of graduates. Tripods are not allowed to be used inside the auditorium.
A photo will be taken of each graduate as they receive their ceremonial certificate from the Presiding Member. You'll receive a digital copy of your stage photo to download via the Reed Events app. Additional stage photographs can be ordered directly from Reed Events.
-
If you or your guests require accessible seating during the ceremony, please let us know when you register through the Reed Events portal.
-
Every graduate is presented with a ceremonial certificate as they cross the stage.
This certificate is a photo-friendly memento designed for the celebration moment and for capturing your achievement with family and friends. It is not your official testamur.
-
To receive your official testamur, you must complete the RSVP process in the Reed Events portal. This applies whether you plan to attend a ceremony or not.
During RSVP, you will be asked to confirm your ceremony attendance type and select your testamur mailing preference.
If you choose a mailing option, you will be directed to payment and will then receive a confirmation email. A tracking number will be sent to you once your testamur has been dispatched.
Testamurs are mailed approximately 6-8 weeks after RSVPs close.
-
If you have received your testamur before your ceremony, you are welcome to bring it on the day. Please note that you will need to carry it with you on stage.
-
Only your current program will be announced at your graduation ceremony.
Award titles are arranged alphabetically and grouped by award level. We announce each title once, then read out the graduates' names.
Example:
For the award of the degree of Bachelor of Commerce:
John Doe
Jennifer Doe
For the award of the degree of Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction:
