What are the differences between clubs and societies?

At UNSW, the terms 'club' and 'society' are used interchangeably by students. Both terms refer to student-led groups that are formed based on a common interest with opportunities for you to attend workshops and events relevant to the club's theme. If you are a club executive, you may even be eligible for AHEGS accreditation.

Generally, students would refer to groups with a smaller set of focus as 'clubs' (e.g. sports), whereas groups with a larger set of objectives are often referred to as 'societies' (e.g. faculty- or school-based societies). Regardless whether you're in a club or society, both have the same goal of fostering the UNSW community.
