The NSW Ministry of Health (the Ministry) wants to improve services for people living with both intellectual disability and mental health support needs. As part of this aim, the Ministry has commissioned the SPRC to consult with stakeholders in the mental health and disability sectors. The findings from the consultations will inform an Intellectual Disability Mental Health (IDMH) Strategy. Consultation participants include mental health consumers with intellectual disability and people with intellectual disability, their family members and carers, and representatives from peak bodies, non-government organisations and the government sector (disability, mental health, additional sectors like the criminal justice system, education and vocational training). The consultation approach involves co-design by consumers, flexible and accessible methods, and culturally relevant and ethical processes.
