Student Support Advisors

The Student Support Team is always here to help with personalised advice and information about university life, wellbeing, academic performance and study skills, student visas, UNSW procedures, financial management or if you need help but don't know where to go.

Our team of Student Support Advisors provide personal support and work with all students to promote the development of skills needed to navigate and succeed at university.

Academic and educational adjustments

Many veterans have found accessing educational adjustments to be a beneficial success strategy. The supportive Equitable Learning Facilitators (ELFs) can work with you to understand your support needs and develop an Equitable Learning Plan (ELP) which outlines the educational adjustments necessary for your participation and engagement. Depending on your  learning needs, health and circumstances this might include provisions such as extensions on assessments, additional time within exams or other exam provisions such as small group environments and/or rest or meal breaks, or assistive technology. Preparation for Work Integrated Learning (where courses have embedded work experience/internship) can also be explored.

You can register for the Equitable Learning Service and once registered, you can make an appointment either in person, by phone or online and they will work with you one to one to develop your individualised ELP.

UNSW employability

UNSW employability is dedicated to helping veterans’ transition smoothly from military service to civilian professional life. By guiding you through a tailored journey to discover, launch, and grow your new career, we provide the support needed to leverage your unique skills and experiences. Our curricular and co-curricular programs offer the opportunity to explore your values and aspirations, gain hands-on experience through internships and placements, and receive personalised career coaching to secure a meaningful civilian role. With specialised teams focused on different aspects of employability, we ensure you are fully equipped to navigate your next chapter successfully.

If you choose to study with UNSW you’ll be eligible for coaching consults either online or onsite at UNSW Sydney. As a veteran, you’re eligible for either a 30 minute EDI consult, or a 30 minute HDR consult if you’re a postgraduate higher degree research candidate. These appointments can be provided up to two years postgraduating to support your growth journey in to your new employability chapter. For more information, visit our individual coaching page.
