As a new staff member at UNSW you must be inducted in Health and Safety procedures and policies.
If you will be working in an office based space your supervisor must go through the HS006 Health & Safety Induction Form with you.
If you will be working in a laboratory your supervisor must go through the HS049 Laboratory Induction and Authorisation Form with you.
This will inform you about:
- Hazards in your work area
- Risk assessments associated with your work
- Safe work procedures
- General health and safety
- Emergency procedures
- After Hours access procedures for your area
- Consultation procedures
After completing the HS006 Induction Form – Health and Safety, your supervisor and you will complete the HS006a Induction Health and Safety Training Individual Plan.

Log in to MyUNSW to enrol on any of the below Training Courses.
- Enter Learning and Development Tab
- Enter Request Training Enrolment
- Enter Search by Course Number
- Enter HSE and click search (this will bring up all Health, Safety & Environment Courses)
* Health Safety Awareness: HSEAWA
* Ergonomic Manual Tasks: HSEEMT
Casual Staff have the option to complete the online ‘HSE Awareness’ and ‘HSE Ergonomics’ training courses or to complete a local HSE induction (which should include as a minimum how to report a hazard/ incident, consultation mechanisms/ contacts, where to find HSE resources and relevant hazards and controls, including but not limited to emergency procedures/ contacts). Managers/ Supervisors must keep records of completion of any local induction. See MyUNSW Training Registration Guide for instructions on how to self-enrol in the online courses.
