All active UNSW staff and students have access to the eduroam WiFi network at UNSW. This network offers fast, secure wireless network connectivity from a wide range of locations across UNSW’s campuses.
Terms and Conditions. By registering your device to connect to and access the UNSW Wired or Wireless Network (the Network) you acknowledge and agree that you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions. UNSW retains the right to modify these Terms and Conditions and may do so by posting modified versions on its website. Any modification is effective immediately upon posting, unless otherwise stated. Your continued use of the Network, after the posting of any modification, signifies acceptance of such modification.
Acceptable use. You have read and understood UNSW’s Acceptable Use of UNSW Information Resources Policy available on the UNSW Policy website located at https://www.unsw.edu.au/governance/policy.
Security. Your usage of the Network is subject to the UNSW Cyber Security Policy, Cyber Security Standards and applicable laws. It is your responsibility to use appropriate virus checking and security software to protect the security of any devices you use to gain access to the Network. You assume all risks associated with your use of the Network, including risks to computers, software or data being damaged by any virus which might be transmitted or activated via the Network or by any material downloaded from the Network. Cyber security controls are essential and most effective when all users share the responsibility to protect UNSW and themselves against cyber threats. We urge you to report any suspicious activity or potential cyber security threats by contacting UNSW: cybersecurityawareness@unsw.edu.au.
Wi-Fi for Guests. If you access the network as a Guest, you acknowledge that data that you send or receive via the network is only encrypted over-the-air if your device supports the Opportunistic Wireless Encryption (OWE) standard.
Access by Minors. The University will take reasonable steps to prevent or minimise access to unlawful or harmful material by persons under 18 years of age (minors) without consent by a parent or guardian.
Eduroam. If you are an employee, student, or agent from a participating federated eduroam institution you can connect to the Network without registering your device. By connecting a device this way to the Network you agree your access and use of the Network is subject to these terms and conditions. Employees, students, or agents of eduroam institutions must also abide by the latest eduroam national policy available at eduroam.edu.au following all relevant guidelines included in section 2.6 on user policy, section 4.0 for logging and sections 5.0 for support.
Alternatives to the Network. If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, UNSW will not grant access to the Network. Your access to digital services and content will be via third-party telecommunications provider networks where carrier terms and conditions and applicable laws will apply. Access to UNSW online services and content via third-party telecommunications provider networks will require you to comply with UNSW UNSW’s Acceptable Use of UNSW Information Resources Policy and other policies, full details of all policies can be found at https://www.unsw.edu.au/governance/policy.
Termination of use. You may stop accessing and discontinue using the Network at any time. This can be done by sending a request for removal to itservicecentre@unsw.edu.au. Once your device registration has been terminated your right to access the Network will be cancelled. UNSW may terminate or suspend the registration of your device with immediate effect if your use of the Network breaches any of these Terms and Conditions.
Suspension of Network. UNSW may discontinue or suspend the provision or operation of the Network if necessary.
Use at own risk. You expressly acknowledge and agree that your use of the Network, or any material available through the Network, is at your own risk. UNSW does not warrant that any materials downloaded from the Network will be fit for any particular purpose, uninterrupted, problem-free, free of omissions, free of viruses or other malicious software or error-free, or that use of material made available or accessible through the Network will not infringe the rights (including intellectual property rights) of any person.
Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will UNSW, its employees, or agents be liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the Network.
Governing Law. These terms are governed by the laws of the state of New South Wales and by the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia.

The supply of this information is voluntary, but if you choose not to provide this information you will not be able to access the Network. Information that we collect from you to enable access to the Network is username, email (in case of guest self-registration), phone (in case of guest self-registration), social media identity (in case of guest login using a social media account), and Display Name/Group Membership/Title. Information collected through your use of the Network includes location of user (based on proximity to specific access points), Device MAC, Device IP, Device Operating System, and Device Hostname.
This information will only by accessible by staff and contractors who require access for the uses outlined above. UNSW is using third party providers, Aruba Central Software as a Service and Azure Platform as a Service to provide services for the Network. These providers are bound by the University’s privacy and security requirements.
