Military background and education

Royal Australian Army Dental Corps - 6 years.

Educational journey

Navigating my educational journey firstly, as an ADF member and then a Military spouse has been a path marked by resilience and adaptability. Moving across multiple states, shifts in roles, and the unique challenges of being a solo parent (while hubby was deployed), has required a "MacGyver" spirit—resourceful, inventive, and I've always ready to tackle whatever comes next. Despite the obstacles, this journey has shaped me into a strong, versatile individual ready to face any challenge with determination and creativity.

Transition to civilian career

After serving six years in the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps, I transitioned into a civilian career, bringing with me a wealth of experience in leadership, time management and teamwork. My time in the military honed my skills in high-pressure environments, team coordination, and delivering quality care under challenging circumstances. These attributes have seamlessly translated into my various civilian role, where I continue to contribute to the community with a strong commitment to excellence and service.

Personal reflection

Transitioning from the ADF to civilian life is a significant life change, but it's also an opportunity to build resilience and grow in new ways. By embracing change, leveraging skills, and seeking out support, the transition can lead to a fulfilling and successful civilian life. The lessons learned along the way are not just about surviving the transition but thriving in a new chapter of life.

Advice to future student veterans

Say yes to opportunity! As a veteran who transitioned to higher education, I understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. My advice to future student veterans is to embrace the skills and discipline you've gained through service, but also be open to learning and adapting in this new environment.

"Seek out support networks, stay focused on your goals, and remember that your experience is a unique asset that can set you apart and drive your success in this next chapter of your life."
