Calvin Chan
BA Master of Business MBA and former Wandering Warriors scholarship recipient
Calvin continues to serve in the Australian Army, with 20 years of full-time service. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from his time at the Australian Defence Force Academy and a Master of Business from the University of New South Wales (Canberra), which he accessed via the Defence Assistance Study Scheme - studying part-time remotely whilst working full-time. The Master of Business triggered a desire to complete a Master of Business Administration, with a view to broaden his horizons and perspectives outside of defence. In addition, Calvin holds a Master of Military and Defence Studies from the Australian National University.
As part of his original planned transition not long ago, he completed a Master of Business Administration whilst on long-service leave through the Australian Graduate School of Management, as a recipient of the Wandering Warriors, opens in a new window veterans’ scholarship. Calvin remains deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been equipped with the tools and confidence to make a mindful transition out of the military when he is ready. Completing the full-time course allowed him to connect with a diverse and amazing cohort of experienced professionals from all over the world. He graduated from the program with a strong sense of the direction he wanted to take after a career of service, but almost as importantly, he learnt from his cohort and from the career coaching sessions what would not work for him after transition. He realised that he remains driven by a desire to serve a greater purpose, and that understanding will shape his choices when he eventually transitions from Defence.
Calvin is a strong believer that the tools, network and knowledge provided by his higher education will be essential to his success when he subsequently chooses to transition.
