FAIC vision is to facilitate the building of effective
AI solutions in a FinTech context via a multidisciplinary effort where different experts contribute their expertise from different areas.

It involves a rethink of the traditional methods we currently use to build software as they need to be adapted to become a collaborative effort between multidisciplinary domain experts and software development/data management teams. FAIC will bring together fragmented academic research areas under one roof and act as a facilitator for multidisciplinary teams from both business and computing fields working in agile/flexible ways and contributing new methods and techniques for building and managing AI Systems.

Our capabilities

  • UNSW is ranked among the top 50 universities globally and FAIC involves internationally recognised researchers working together across the Engineering and Business faculties, both are top-ranked in Australia.

  • UNSW was a lead participant in the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC) in the early 2000s and has continuously engaged with the financial sector via applied multidisciplinary IT-related research studies.

  • FAIC has established a multi-vendor cloud technology infrastructure for experimentation involving several industry partners notably AWS, Databricks and BrewAI.

  • FAIC has acquired a wide range of datasets to support research activities in modelling and sharing domain knowledge and processing large amounts of data.

  • FAIC is unique in its focus on applying software engineering techniques for building effective AI solutions for real-world problems. It investigates new ways of incorporating explainability, trust and responsibility in relation to AI systems in a Fintech context.
