Project: Eastern Australian Waterbird Survey

Lead researcher, Prof. Kingsford gives a pre-survey summary as he and the team of aerial waterbird survey observers prepare for the initial flight of the 42nd year of the survey.

Once again this year the Queensland leg will be the first part of the survey after a few opportunistic surveys of wetlands on the NSW coast as they fly north.

The team have the added task of looking out for signs of avian influenza and will be recording and reporting any sightings of large numbers of deceased waterbirds.

You can follow the team during October and November as they complete surveys over eastern Australia's most important wetlands as they proceed from Queensland to Victoria in the south and South Austrlaia in the west by following their daily blog.

We hope the team have a steady and successful survey period in 2024.
