UNSW's commitment to safeguarding staff and students abroad.
UNSW has a duty of care to all staff and students travelling internationally on UNSW-related business.
If you are seeking approval to travel to a destination that is rated DFAT 3 or 4, or otherwise deemed to be a "High Risk" location by UNSW Risk, then you are required to complete a travel risk assessment for your trip and submit it in your PTA.
Travel Risk resources
The Risk Management team reviews all travel requests for international travel to destinations deemed high risk due to the destination or activities planned, informed by DFAT and UNSW’s partner – International SOS. Our commitment is to respond to travel requests received via the MyTravel@UNSW system within 48 business hours of receipt.
Smart Traveller can be used to check the advice level for the region you intend to travel to.
About International SOS, our Travel Emergency Assistance Provider
UNSW has partnered with International SOS (ISOS) to provide our staff and students with emergency assistance while travelling. ISOS is a leading global health and security risk management company, providing services designed to safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of travellers worldwide.
ISOS partners with local medical providers and has an extensive team of health and security experts who provide insights and support tailored to the unique risks of each region. UNSW is confident that our people will be supported and prepared to successfully undertake activities and stay safe.
Why ISOS?
ISOS offers expertise in medical assistance, emergency response and security support, ensuring people are well-prepared for potential challenges while travelling or working abroad. Its global network of assistance centres, clinics and on-the-ground experts in over 90 countries, allows ISOS to deliver rapid, localised responses to crises which is critical in emergency situations.
ISOS’s suite of tools such as the ISOS Assistance App, web portal and other resources integrate seamlessly with the university’s travel system and processes, ensuring employees are informed, prepared and able to access assistance wherever they are. You can call ISOS through the Assistance app, or any of their 24-hour Assistance Centres around the world to speak with a doctor, security specialist or coordinator.
