All current UNSW students and staff can use the Eduroam and Uniwide Wi-Fi networks on campus. Visitors can use the UNSW Guest network to have a wireless connection to the UNSW Campuses.

These networks provide fast and secure internet access in many locations across UNSW. Please note that the Eduroam network will become the primary UNSW network for staff, students and guests.

Get connected, stay connected

The Eduroam network will become the primary Wi-Fi network provided by UNSW for students, staff and guests.

If you're a staff member or student working at the Hospital Precinct, or other affiliate institutions, please use the Eduroam network.

Where multiple eduroam Wi-Fi networks overlap, look for eduroam-UNSW to access UNSW’s Wi-Fi. Follow the self-help guide below to connect to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network.

Eduroam

The Eduroam network will become the primary UNSW network for students, staff and guests.

Once enrolled at UNSW, students and staff can use the Eduroam service not only on the university's campuses across Australia and overseas but also when working from affiliate locations like the Hospital Precinct.

Network Name: eduroam (eduroam-UNSW for affiliates)
Username: z1234567@ad.unsw.edu.au
Password: zID Password

Wi-Fi for guests

Visitors who do not have Eduroam credentials can access Wi-Fi at UNSW by connecting to the UNSW Guest Network.

You can find detailed instructions on how to connect in the self-help guides below.

Uniwide

Eduroam is the preferred and primary Wi-Fi network provided by UNSW. Students and staff can still use Uniwide for campus Wi-Fi access until it is retired in December 2024.

Uniwide uses your zID and password to authenticate. For a detailed guide on how to configure your device please refer to the self-help guides provided below.

Network Name: uniwide
Username: zID
Password: zID Password

Wired and wireless access for specialty devices

Students and staff can connect specialty devices to the network across campus and within the UNSW residential colleges.

Support for guests

  • In order to connect to the guest wi-fi network please follow the steps below:

Step 1 -  Navigate to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the 'UNSW Guest' Network.

Step 2 -  You will be redirected to a registration screen and be asked to provide your name and e-mail details. You will also need to accept the T&Cs and Privacy Statement before proceeding. If you are not automatically redirected to this portal, go to the following link: https://guest-portal.it.unsw.edu.au/guest/guest-email-login.php

Step 3 - After clicking Register, you will then land on a welcome screen, which says you have temporary (approximately five minutes) access, before being redirected to the UNSW home page. You will need to promptly navigate to your mail account to get the activation link.

Step 4 - Use the Activation Link from the email to activate the access:

Step 5 - You will land on a confirmation screen asking you to confirm (or reject) Wi-Fi access

Step 6 - After choosing, you will be redirected to a final screen confirming or denying Wi-Fi access to your device. You will have one week of continuous access. After that time, you can repeat the registration process as often as you wish:

Reminder – UNSW staff and students should not connect to UNSW Guest as it has restricted access. If you are a staff or student please connect to the Eduroam Network.

  • Invalid Registration Token

If you receive an 'Invalid Registration Token' error after clicking the activation link then the link has expired. Complete the registration again and wait for a new activation link to be sent:

The portal is not loading properly

on different browsers and try clearing cookies/cache (NOTE - the above links will only work while connected to the UNSW Guest Wi-fi network)

Issue connecting to the verification site

If you are having connection issues, check that wi-fi is enabled on the device, check their signal strength, try disabling/re-enabling wi-fi, try forgetting/reconnecting to the network, try checking that DHCP is enabled (where possible) and releasing/renewing their IP address (where possible - see this link for instructions for PC/Mac: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/840/).

Access to the captive portals/acceptance pages are only allowed from the GUEST network, it will not work from public (4g etc), uniwide or eduroam. If a link isn't working, ensure you are on UNSW Guest SSID.

Ensure that MAC randomisation is disabled. A static MAC address is required to connect consistently.
