Mark Wilson (REDHERRING) The BBQ 2024 acrylic screen print on 250gsm paper 76cm x 56cm

The work aims to reclaim spaces I once could not occupy as an openly gay man. I use colour vibration to draw attention to these spaces and bitmapping techniques to replicate newsprint, which is often a vehicle used to perpetuate heteronormative ideals. By employing them, I subvert their message, challenging the status quo from within. I invite viewers to confront their own biases and preconceptions, fostering empathy and understanding to create a more inclusive world.
