Abby Murray, Standing still, falling through, climbing up 2023.

Oil, Charcoal, Chain, Metal Wire, Thread, Found Fabric and Canvas. 60cm x 70cm x 80cm + 65cm x 90 cm Image courtesy: the artist.

Standing still, falling through, climbing up explores painting through quilting, sculpture and installation. Beginning with charcoal and oil on unstretched canvas, I destruct and re-work my paintings, isolating images to form a collage. The quilted paintings are shaped with metal, repainted and stacked together to merge borders of magical realism with the history of self. The staircase and quilt represent everyday objects intertwined with personal memory and grief.
