Key areas of interest:

  • Drawing on its multidisciplinary expertise, the Institute offers a platform to advise on policy and planning innovations that addresses the urgent need to plan appropriately for climate risk, to understand the relevant modelling, and apply it to create effective public policy responses.

  • The economic consequences of climate change constitute a rapidly changing and highly uncertain environment for the insurance industry. There is a need to develop a more robust understanding of the direct and indirect impacts of climate change in the medium to long-term on private and government insurance and on reinsurance as well as the associated financing risks. The Institute has the scientific, legal and business (notably actuarial studies) expertise to advise in this area.

  • A more sophisticated understanding of climate risk and responses is critical to the business model for Banks and Financial Institutions. For example, the risks arising from climate are influencing investor preferences and driving green investment, while super fund environmental investment strategies are affecting individual and superannuation industry-wide lifecycle savings and investment outcomes. There is a need to mitigate against, and to seize opportunities to develop new products that address these challenges. The Institute can respond to this need via in-house expertise and tailored solutions to institutional requirements. It can provide advice on how to utilise the significant leverage of investors to positively influence climate approaches.

  • Increasingly, directors and executives of public (and private) companies need to understand how climate risk may impact all parts of their business and to engage in more robust risk management, planning and decision making. The Institute with its regulatory, legal and scientific expertise offers world-leading professional education products and bespoke training for this market to enable practitioners to integrate climate risk into the BAU approach of their operations.
