The University has placed 19th globally for a second consecutive year in the highly regarded global rankings.
UNSW Sydney has ranked 19th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, retaining its spot in the top 20 universities in the world.
The rankings show that Australia is home to some of the world’s best universities, with three Australian universities ranking in the world’s top 20.
UNSW Sydney Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs said it was an important moment for the University in its 75th anniversary year to solidify its position as a top 20 global university.
“Today’s ranking announcement reflects our commitment to students, to innovation and to partnerships with community and industry. Over the past year a lot of hard work has gone into exceptional teaching, outstanding research and social impact,” Prof. Brungs said.
“The importance of the ranking is not so much in the number itself but the recognition and global influence it brings which enable us to have the greatest positive impact on society. We strive to improve the world through innovation, social cohesion, good health and economic prosperity for everyone.”
The QS World University Rankings are compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, a higher education analytics firm. The 2025 rankings feature 1503 institutions across 106 locations and is the only ranking of its kind to emphasise employability and sustainability.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research & Enterprise (DVCR&E) Professor Merlin Crossley said he was thrilled to learn that QS had rated UNSW so highly.
“The outstanding results show that UNSW has once again performed particularly well in sustainability. This reflects our efforts in influencing society and the environment through education and research,” Prof. Crossley said.
“It’s pleasing to see UNSW keeps rising in the areas of academic and employer reputation. This is proof that UNSW is not only perceived as demonstrating academic excellence, but that we are also providing highly valued graduates.”
