Learning across different dimensions

Four hundred delegates from Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America will discuss new dimensions of the scholarship of teaching and learning at UNSW from Monday to Thursday, 2-5 July.

The 2007 Conference of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (ISSOTL) will be co-hosted by UNSW,The University of Sydney, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in the US.

Founded in 2004, ISSOTL's goal is to foster inquiry and disseminate findings about what improves post-secondary learning and teaching.

The 2007 Conference Chair, Dr Kathy Takayama says she hopes the conference will "push people outside their comfort zones, and offer new perspectives on the scholarship of teaching and learning. I expect that the conference will encourage delegates to consider learning across a range of dimensions -- global and national, local and indigenous, and within and across disciplines."

To be opened by Her Excellency, NSW Governor Marie Bashir, the conference will feature major scholars in teaching, including Nobel Laureate Carl E. Wieman, Distinguished Professor of Physics, University of Colorado (USA), Allan Luke, Queensland University of Technology (Australia), Andree Sursock, Deputy Secretary General, European University Association (Belgium) and leading scholars from the Carnegie Institute (USA).
