Application and admissions

  • To be considered for an offer, please send your application via our Apply Online portal.

    You can apply for postgraduate study if you are in your final term and will complete your undergraduate studies prior to commencing Term 1 of postgraduate studies. You will need to provide your final transcript or degree certificate prior to the census date of your commencing term.

    If you are ready to submit an application for postgraduate study, please create an account and log in to UNSW Apply Online.

  • If you’re 20 years of age or older on 1 March of each calendar year, you are considered a mature aged student. To be considered for entry into our business degree, you will be assessed on the basis of your academic qualifications:

    • Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. ATAR, OP rank)
    • A recognised TAFE or Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) diploma or advanced diploma

    OR

    • An incomplete university degree
    • A recognised university preparation program
    • Other recognised qualifications

    Professionals with more than 5 years of work experience but no bachelor degree may be eligible for our Graduate Certificate in Commerce.​​

  • ​​​Entry into our undergraduate business degrees is competitive. If you haven’t met the entry cut-off, you might want to consider studying a different undergraduate degree (either at UNSW or another university), achieve good marks for your first year of study, and then apply for transfer.

  • Please check that you meet the entry requirements of the new degree you would like to be considered for before lodging a request. You may then submit a request to https://www.enquiry.unsw.edu.au.

    Please see the example below for a step by step guide of which selections you would make on the enquiry form.

    This example would be for a postgraduate international applicant.

    • Choose > Postgraduate
    • Choose > International Applicant
    • Choose > Current Applicant
    • Choose > Ask a question (not upload)
    • Next, complete the detail > applicant ID number (not application number)
    • Status > select either conditional or full offer received
    • Enquiry > State that you wish to change your Program/Plan, also add what you wish to change to.

    Please note, a change of offer from one degree to another will need to be re-assessed and may require an approximate time of 1-2 weeks to be processed. If successful, you will be emailed a new offer.

  • As our undergraduate business degrees have high entry ATAR cut-offs, a TAFE Certificate IV/Diploma is not competitive for entry in our business degrees.

  • Yes. As long as your overall grades are sufficiently high (usually a distinction grade) to meet the entry ATAR cut-offs, you may be eligible for entry into our undergraduate business degrees. Unfortunately, we do not recognise the units of study completed for transfer credits. So, even if you gain entry into our business degree, you would have to start from Year 1.

  • Yes, but we only recognise approved university foundation programs that serve as pathways into relevant university programs at a Group of Eight (Go8) university. Download a list of Go8 approved foundation programs recognised by UNSW, and indicative grades required of international applicants.

  • Yes. As long as your TAFE Advanced Diploma is graded, and is sufficiently high (usually a distinction grade) to meet the entry ATAR cut-offs, you may be eligible for entry into our undergraduate business degrees. Unfortunately, we do not recognise the units of study completed at TAFE for transfer credits. So, even if you gain entry into our business degree, you would have to start from Year 1.

  • Yes, supporting documents for your application can still be uploaded via Apply Online using your temporary username and password that you created during the registration stage.

  • f you’ve received an offer for one business degree and wish to change to a different business degree, please check that you meet the entry requirements of the new degree before lodging a request (including your UNSW student ID number) to our Admissions Office. Note that a change of offer from one degree to another is considered a re-assessment or a new application, and may require an approximate time of 1-2 weeks for processing. If successful, you will be emailed a new offer.

  • Program Deferral: You can defer your offer through the myUNSW Accept Online process. Follow the instructions for accepting your offer – Deferment is one of the options in “Accept Online”.

    When you request deferment online, you can save or print the screen for your records. Once your deferment has been processed by Admissions Office you will be emailed a Deferment Confirmation letter with information on how to take up your deferred place in a future term.

    If you haven't received your Deferment Confirmation letter within two weeks of deferring your offer, call the UNSW Admissions Office on +61 (2) 9385 3656 or make an online enquiry.

  • ATAR requirements change from year to year. The current entry ATAR cut-off should give you an idea of what sort of ATAR you will need in order to gain entry to our business degrees.

  • Program Deferral: You can defer your offer through the myUNSW Accept Online process. Follow the instructions for accepting your offer – Deferment is one of the options in “Accept Online”.

  • If you’ve submitted your online application and wish to upload supporting documentation, you can do so via myUNSW (and not via Apply Online). You will need your UNSW ID and UniPass to log into my UNSW. If you have not created a UniPass, visit the UNSW Identity Manager (IDM) and follow the setup instructions.

  • Yes. It is important to accept your offer to secure your place in the program. You will however, be required to provide UNSW with your final transcript and proof of completion at the start of your first semester.

  • ​Yes, you will need to supply a cover letter with compelling reasons why your application should be reconsidered for admission. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for an outcome. Once your file has been re-assessed the decision will be final. Send your appeal to admissions@business.unsw.edu.au.

  • ​For a complete application* allow an approximate time of 1-2 weeks This timeframe may be longer in peak periods. If additional documentation is requested by our Admissions Department, then this will also lengthen the assessment timeframe. Please ensure you submit your completed application with all supporting documentation early to avoid delays.

    *A complete application means:

    • Submission of all supporting documentation as outlined on the entry requirements of the program you’re applying for.
    • Certified copies of your transcripts, if you are from a Non-211 China University.
    • Authorised English translations of the original transcript and grading system, if the transcript is in another language other than English.
    • English language tests if applicable.
    • All extra documentation that is particular to the program applied for (e.g. resume).
  • Yes if you are an Australian Citizen you may be eligible for FEE-HELP. For further information regarding fees, visit Fee Information.
