Industry Experience Program

1. Log in to BusinessConnect, opens in a new window using your UNSW zID and Single Sign On.
2. Select ‘Jobs’ in the top menu.
3. Using the Search tab, select Position Type > Internship: COMM5022 from drop-down menus located under the Search bar.

• Each internship is unique, so it's important to find the right fit. Tailor your resume, cover letter, and other documents to each role to boost your chances of landing the position.
• Avoid using the same resume for all applications. Customising your application documents shows organisations you’re genuinely interested and have taken the time to understand what they’re looking for.

Accepting offers

• Successful candidates will be notified at their UNSW email address and have 2 business days to accept the offer via BusinessConnect. Offers that aren’t accepted by the deadline, will automatically go to the next placed candidate.
• Once you’ve accepted your internship, you’ll be directed to apply for the course.
• If you’re interviewing for positions, it’s good practice to inform other organisations you’re no longer available.

Declining offers 

• If you choose to decline an offer, contact the organisation directly via email to thank them for the opportunity. Please make sure you copy careeraccelerator@unsw.edu.au, opens in a new window into the email.

You can only complete this step once you secure an internship. 

1. On the BusinessConnect Home page, select the WIL tile below and choose ‘Add New’ to complete the form.
2. Under the Academic Course section, please ensure the following options are selected:
   • UNSW sourced or self-sourced placement: UNSW sourced placement 
   • Course Code: COMM5022
   • Confirm and acknowledge the course outline check box
   • Course Name: COMM5022: Industry Experience Program
3. Complete the details as required for sections.
4. WIL Core Terms Agreement: 
   • Review and acknowledge the Student Code of Conduct 
   • Review and acknowledge the student part of the WIL Core Terms Agreement
     • SELECT to send to Organisation Contact tick box. 
5. Review your application and submit

• Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by Career Accelerator, and you’ll be enrolled in the course. Please ensure you have space in your term. 
• You cannot self-enrol in the Industry Experience Program.

• Undertaking a self-sourced internship means you’re responsible for sourcing your own placement that suits you and is relevant to your degree.
• Self-sourced internships need to be approved by Career Accelerator to ensure they meet the learning outcomes for the course.

• Avoid using the same resume for all applications. Customising your application documents shows organisations you’re genuinely interested and have taken the time to understand what they’re looking for.

When applying and interviewing, there are key details a potential host organisation should be aware of:  

• You will complete academic assignments and workshops as part of the Industry Experience Program (COMM2222), in addition to your practical work at the internship.  
• You are required to complete 120 hours (minimum) of work placement during the academic term dates.
• You are required to have:
  • 1 x 30-minute meeting a week with your supervisor (minimum).
  • 2 x 1-hour meetings; one at the beginning and one end of your placement.
• The host organisation commits to the UNSW Work Integrated Learning Core Terms.

If successful and an offer has been made, congratulations! 

• Once you secure an internship, inform your host organisation supervisor that you need to complete the course application and enrolment process.
• After you lodge your application to the course, your host organisation will:
  • Be contacted by Career Accelerator to verify the position.
  • Receive an email from BusinessConnect asking them to complete the WIL Agreement to approve your placement.

   • Organisation Details.
   • Organisation/Workplace Supervisor.
   • You will need to provide a work email for your supervisor, and they must be able to communicate in English.
   • Placement Details.
   • UNSW/Academic Supervisor (as per handbook).
4. Under the Work Tasks section, along with completing any required details, please attach:
   • A position description of your self-sourced internship on an organisation letterhead.
   • Career Accelerator: Essentials Certificate.
5. WIL Core Terms Agreement:
   • Review and acknowledge the Student Code of Conduct.
   • Review and acknowledge the student part of the WIL Core Terms Agreement.
     • SELECT to send to Organisation Contact tick box.
6. Review your application and submit.

• When your application has been submitted and reviewed, your host organisation will receive an email from Career Accelerator advising them to review and confirm the details you have provided in your application.
• Upon confirmation of these details your host organisation will then be asked to review and sign the Work Integrated Learning Core Terms.

• Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by Career Accelerator, and you’ll be enrolled in the course. Please ensure you have space in your term.
• You cannot self-enrol in the Industry Experience Program.
