Dr Yuchen Xie is a Postdoc Fellow at the Centre for Social Research in Health and the Social Policy Research Centre. Her recent work at the centres focuses on reducing stigma experienced by individuals living with infectious diseases, enhancing access to screening and healthcare engagement. She is also interested in exploring the impacts of other types of stigma, including agesim, on health and well-being.

Prior to her current role, Yuchen was a Scientia PhD scholar in the School of Psychology at UNSW. Her PhD research focuses on understanding the complexities of navigating aged care services from the consumer perspective. This work resulted in several high-impact publications, including a journal article in The Gerontologist, which was awarded the Runner-Up Publication Prize by the Australian Association of Gerontology. Her research also earned two Best Poster Awards at national and international conferences. Yuchen's PhD research was also featured in prominent media outlets such as Research Australia's INSPIRE Magazine.

Before her PhD training at UNSW, she worked on various research projects on health policy and health services research in the United States and Singapore.

Yuchen is an interdisciplinary researcher with an academic background in public health and psychology. Her multidisciplinary research combined health services research, social policy, and psychology to address complex problems in healthcare and aged care settings. Her research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to address three broad research areas:

  1. Equitable access to health/aged care services
  2. Application of digital technology, such as AI, in healthcare and aged care
  3. Barriers to accessing healthcare services faced by vulnerable communities, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds

Yuchen's research has resulted in several high-impact academic publications, including articles published in The Gerontologist and the Lancet Digital Health.
