Dr B. T. (Toan) Phung is an Associate Professor in Energy Systems. He runs the High Voltage Laboratory in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. His research interests include:
- High Voltage Engineering - high voltage generation, measurement, and testing
- Dielectric and electrical insulation materials - electrical properties; ageing mechanisms; diagnostic methods
- Partial discharge - detection, measurement, characterisation, and recognition
- Power system equipment - generators, motors, transformers, cables, transmission lines, switchgear
- Condition monitoring of substation and power system equipment, smart sensors and sensing systems
- Electromagnetic transients in power systems, lightning
- Application of machine learning and signal processing techniques in condition monitoring
