Sze-Yuan is a clinician researcher with extensive clinical experience and expertise in the fields of coronary intervention and cardiac device implantation, including novel implantable cardiac device and remote monitoring technologies. He is a Staff Specialist at the Prince of Wales Hospital and is the current Director of the Coronary Care Unit. Sze-Yuan is the co-chair of the “Optimising uptake of proven therapies” theme within the SPHERE Cardiac and Vascular Health (CVH) Clinical Academic Group. He is well-recognized in the Sydney region for his advocacy to use eHealth and mHealth solutions in CV health towards promoting continuity of care and self-management. Dr Ooi has co-led the development of a smartphone application-centric system called Total Cardiac Care plus (TCC+) and was recently awarded a $1.89M grant as CIA by the NSW Ministry of Health to co-lead a multi-site implementation randomized controlled trial of this technology across NSW.  This system is also the foundation for the planned Prince of Wales Hospital Virtual Care Centre.

Sze-Yuan has also conducted research in the area of coronary microvascular function and its determinants in the context of an acute coronary syndrome.

Sze-Yuan has supervised 2 PhD students to completion, and is currently supervising 2 PhD students, 2 Masters in Medicine Research students and 1 Masters of Health in Health Sciences Data Science student.
