Dr Melrose Brown
Dr Melrose Brown leads the numerical space situational awareness research at UNSW Canberra Space and is also the Space Masters program coordinator.
Ph.D. scholarships ($35,000 per year) are available for high-achieving students (with H1/High Distinction in UG and/or Masters by Research) in engineering, mathematics, physics or relevant sciences under my supervision. If you are interested contact me at melrose.brown@adfa.edu.au
He holds a Masters and Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering. Previously he was responsible for the numerical simulation and analysis of the 'SCRAMSPACE' hypersonic flight vehicle and was heavily involved with the vehicle's design, construction, testing and launch. Since joining UNSW Canberra he has sought to apply the same coupling of high fidelity numerical simulations with ground and flight test to study the complex interaction between satellites and the space environment. His current research interests include:
- Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) and Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulations of space vehicles in Low Earth Orbit (LEO)
- Orbit propagation and determination techniques
- High fidelity drag modelling of LEO satellites
- Physics-based atmosphere modelling and approximation
- Hypersonic computational fluid dynamics
