Associate Professor Lei Zhang

Dr. Zhang is currently a Senior Lecturer at Kirby Institute, UNSW. He completed his Bachelor and Masters in Mathematics at the University of Sydney in 2002. He then pursued his PhD in Medicine in the University of New South Wales in Microbiology. In 2006, he accepted a postdoctoral position offer at Humboldt University, Berlin and researched on topics of bioinformatics. In 2007, he became a visiting scholar at Bar-Ilan University in Israel for 3 months. In 2008, he enrolled in a Master of Public Health and completed it in 2009. In the same year he accepted a full-time research position in the Kirby Institute, UNSW. He is currently conducting HIV epidemiological studies in China and Southeast Asia. In 2004-2012, he has co-authored 32 peer-reviewed articles, published in high impact journals including PNAS, CID, JAIDS, J. Virology, PloS ONE, and BMC Public health. He has consulting experience for the World Bank and UNAIDS, to conduct national or world regional studies for HIV epidemic. He has also co-authored 3 national reports for Vietnam, Indonesian and eight Eastern European/Central Asia countries.
