Professor Chi-King Lee has been working in the areas of numerical modelling, structural engineering and sustainable construction materials for many years. His main research interests include steel structure, sustainable/green construction materials, sustainable building structure system and protective engineering for structures. He acts as reviewer for many international journals in the areas of numerical modelling, construction materials, structural mechanics and structural engineering. He also worked as a consultant for the PSA Singapore on the dynamic fatigue study of container quay cranes as well as for a building design software company to provide recommendations on the implementation of their analysis and design software.
Due to Prof. Lee's research expertise/impact in structural engineering, he was elected as an Editorial Board member of the international journal Engineering Structures in August 2021.
Research Interests
Sustainable construction materials: Green concrete and engineered cementitious composites with low carbon footprint
Steel structures and sustainable Building Structure System: Use of high strength steel and engineered cementitious composites in structural engineering, Integrated design procedure for optimal sustainable building structural system
Protective engineering for structures: Explosion safety of ammunition magazines, Impact and ricochet behaviours of explosion debris, Combined blast and fragment loading on structures, Progressive collapse of reinforced concrete structures
**Scholarships of $35,000 (AUD) are available for PhD students who achieved UNSW High Distinction (H1) or equivalent in their undergraduate program and/or have completed a Masters by Research.
Several types of scholarships are available. In general, as admission and scholarship applications are highly competitive. In addition, all applicants must meet the English language requirements.
For more information, please refer to the following link on how to apply for a research degree.
Potential Research Topics
(1) Development of green/sustainable concrete and engineered cementitious composites for civil engineering application.
(2) Development of high performance construction materials for protective engineering under extreme loading (e.g. fire, impact, blast and fragments)
(3) Protective engineering for structures: Explosion safety of ammunition magazines, Combined blast and fragment loading on structures, Progressive collapse of reinforced concrete structures, protection of infra-structure under impacts (e.g. vehicular and machinery impacts)
