Dr Charu Maithani
I am a Lecturer in Media, Journalism & Communication in the School of Arts & Media (SAM). I work across media studies, media ecologies, digital art and visual practices where I articulate material-discursive practices that generate conditions of mediality and investigate aesthetic and political relations of media objects.
My work experience traverses multiple fields that contribute to my research and teaching practice. I have worked as a curator and programs manager in arts organisations and projects across India. Having worked at different levels of television and film production in New Delhi, India, I have gathered insights into different stages of productions across these fields.

My current research activities are centred around working on my first sole-authored book (Amsterdam University Press) exploring screens in multiple contemporary postmedia assemblages.
In conjunction, my other strand of research focuses on the relationship between data practices and dominant ideological arrangement of vision. In particular I am analyzing the perceptual and epistemological changes in contemporary media culture facilitated by generative AI image models.
My Teaching
I lecture in media studies and practices. I teach undergraduate courses that analyse the practices of the self using digital technologies and postgraduate courses in storytelling using data and other broadcast media.
