The objective of my research is to characterise the role of cholesterol in the mechanisms of disease development and progression. Whilst cholesterol is a fundamental constituent of animal cells, impaired cholesterol homeostasis plays a critical role in the development and pathogenesis of diabetes, atherosclerosis and obesity. My research utilises novel animal models, in vitro systems and translational research approaches to answer important medical questions
