Walgett's Gali kiosk reaches 20,000 litres of free, filtered water dispensed

The Dharriwaa Elders Group has announced that its Gali water kiosk, at their storefront in Walgett, has dispensed 20,057 litres of free, clean and safe drinking water as of 28 February 2025.
The kiosk opened on 13 December 2023, as a way to mitigate the low water security in Walgett. Before the kiosk opened, residents had no choice but to purchase bottled water to avoid drinking the town water supply, which is high in sodium and of unacceptable quality. Some residents were spending $30-50 per week on water, making it challenging for them to afford other necessities.
The Yuwaya Ngarra-li Partnership between the Dharriwaa Elders Group and UNSW Sydney looks forward to sharing the kiosk's next milestone.
