The decision to cancel the event has been made in consideration of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns currently impacting many member universities across the country, and the capacity for both members and participants to confirm their travel and attendance at the event given the current climate.

“The cancellation of Nationals was not taken lightly. With the current lockdowns and uncertainty as to when the lockdowns will be lifted, it has been impossible for our members and students to confirm their ability to attend.
There continues to be a very strong interest in competitive sport for university students. Together with our members, we will work to find suitable alternate state-based competition opportunities to support this.
By making this decision now, we are able to explore these opportunities for our members and students.” said Mark Sinderberry, CEO, UniSport.

UniSport would like to express our gratitude to major event partners Tourism & Events Queensland, and Major Events Gold Coast, presenting partner UniBank, our sponsors, member universities for their understanding, patience, and continued support.

The UniSport flagship event takes place annually in September attracting over 7,000 student-athletes from across Australia participating in a week-long competition of over 30 different sports.
