Around the Grounds: 4-7 October
Surely there is no sweeter time than the night before a long weekend. From the blissful vantage point of Friday evening, anything seems possible.

#TeamUNSW embraced the long weekend like a DIY Dad with a portfolio of unfinished projects, the rugby world cup fanatic who didn’t leave the Doncaster for three days, or that friend of yours who is getting into the lengthy process of making their own artisanal sourdough.
CRICKET
On day one against Campbeltown-Camden DCC, grades 1, 3 and 5 all had play abandoned prior to a ball being bowled. 2nd grade posted a very competitive 1st innings total of 227 thanks largely to Ridham Vadalia’s 103 and Kavvy Saini’s 55. 4th grade also placed themselves in a strong position managing 6 for 260 on the back of Blake Hudson’s 115* and Jake Greenberg’s 68. Metropolitan Cup defeated Randwick Petersham Gold 8 for 236 to 8 for 93. Skipper Tal Fleming scoring 79 and Vibhu Karthikeyan contributing 43 with the bat and 3 for 8 with the ball.
As well as the second day against Campbeltown-Camden, the Bees have a double header fixture this Sunday against The Easts Cricket Club. The Poidevin-Gray Shield will be under way at 10:00am, followed by the First Grade Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup at 2:30pm. Good luck to both UNSWCC sides, head down to Waverley Oval this weekend to show your support.

TOUCH FOOTBALL
Spring in Australia is not all sunshine and backyard barbeques, it is also the time for cowering in constant fear of swooping magpies. To avenge all innocent cyclists vainly defending themselves with cable tie antennae, our Women’s Division 1 team defeated their namesake in round 9, defeating the Wests Magpies by on try to record UNSW’s sole win for the weekend. The Women’s Div 1, Div 2 Team 1, and the Men’s Div 4 all came within one try of their opponents in what proved to be hotly contested matches.

AIKIDO
The UNSW Aikido team took to the dojo for three intensive days under the guidance of Maruyama Sensei who made the trip down from Japan for Spring Camp.
BOXING
The UNSW Boxing Club Fight Night is confirmed for November 4th as athletes will face off against boxers from USYD & WSU. My advice is to be wary of soap salesmen who look like Brad Pitt, avoid punching them in a parking lot, moving in together and starting a clandestine recreational Fight Club ring that is also involved in anti-corporate vandalism as the aforementioned Brad Pitt type turns out to be a social anarchistic revolutionary. This has generally been proven to end in everything going up in flames to the iconic tune of The Pixies’ ‘Where is My Mind’. Instead, place your trust in the experienced and professional UNSW Boxing Club team who will be providing support with training, management and competition preparation to those interested in taking up the challenge.
