Graduate Melissa Chiu has been named director of the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, opens in a new window in Washington, DC.

Chiu was the founding director of Gallery 4A in Sydney (now 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art) and has served as the director of the Asia Society Museum, opens in a new window in New York since 2004.

In her new position, Chiu will oversee an international collection of nearly 12,000 paintings, sculptures and photographs.
