Deb Batley (MEd) is a PhD candidate in Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She is also an accredited teacher, teaching at an independent school in Northern NSW and on the teaching staff of Tamworth Regional Conservatorium. Her first entry into research was when she was successfully awarded an AISNSW grant, on behalf of her school to coordinate a school based research project examining the use of music education, in scaffolding underachieving middle school age, readers. Her doctoral research focuses on Bourdieu's theories of social reproduction, and how these can illuminate our understanding of curriculum reform within the field of music education.
