Dr Seher Ata is an Associate Professor in the School of Minerals and Energy resources Engineering. Prior to joining UNSW, she was a Research Academic at the Centre for Multiphase Processes, the Newcastle University.

Ata has been actively involved in fundamental and applied research into multiphase, specifically froth flotation system. Her work covers all aspects of flotation research, both physical and chemical, from the research and development stage through to the application of research...

Dr Ata’s research interests are in mineral processing with specific focus on froth flotation, a separation technique widely used for treating of fine-size ores.  She has directly involved and managed a wide range of projects which have concentrated on bubble-particle interaction, froth phase behaviour in industrial flotation cells, recovery of particles in the froth phase, froth visualisation and the impact of water chemistry on the efficiency of coal processing plants. Her research has also included coalescence of oil drops and assembly of particles including nanoparticles at air-water and fluid interfaces, a process important for emulsions and bubble stabilisation.  More recently her research has focused on the role of not-frothing agents on bubble property, recovery of lithium from brines and tailings reprocessing.
