Internships and projects
Internships and projects are a valuable offering for both students and organisations. They help students to practice what they have learned and organisations get to sample their skills and value in real life settings.
Employers have numerous opportunities to engage with MBA students during their studies through our annual range of events, mentoring opportunities and by hosting MBA interns and offering strategic consulting projects.
Internships
Internships are paid individual short-term projects or positions within companies, which are similar to a short-term contract.
Internships are typically undertaken by our Full-Time MBA students over an eight to twelve week period during the course of a student’s MBA studies and are tailored according to the company’s requirements and the student’s availability.
This is not only a wonderful experience for students seeking a major career transition, but historically a significant percentage result in offers of permanent employment with the hosting organisation following successful completion of an internship. These paid internships are an ideal way for the student and employer to assess one other.

Strategic Consulting Projects
Strategic consulting projects (SCPs) provide companies the opportunity for a team of MBA students to work on a strategic project. The SCPs are an elective course students can undertake as part of their studies and there is no cost to companies to participate – only your time.
The program provides substantial value and experience to all involved including the client, the team of students, and the academic supervisor.
The core objective of the program is to provide students with a project challenge that demands rigorous investigation, analysis and synthesis in a team environment. The projects should allow students to be exposed to a variety of departments and disciplines within a company when possible.
Students work in teams (usually of four to five people) and are supported by an academic supervisor (an expert from the UNSW Business School) and a project facilitator from the company.
Projects run over Term 3 (September – December) of each year. Year-round projects are available for students undertaking the MBAX capstone course.

Faethm started operating just four years ago and we now have over 70 staff and offices in three countries. As we scaled, we worked closely with the AGSM to identify the best MBA students to join our growing team. Each student proved to have the maturity and tenacity to take ownership of the challenges we presented them. We look forward to continuing working with the AGSM to help fuel our future growth.

The three students presented to a ‘standing room only’ crowd of executives and colleagues who posed some interesting and challenging questions. They presented their work professionally and managed the large group session with composure and credibility. Excerpts of their work were included in papers that were presented to the Board, as an excellent example of how Mission Australia could better leverage data management and impact measurement capability in the current market.
