This piece depicts a woman and man standing under an umbrella in each other's embrace. It symbolises the heartfelt decision to leave behind any past turmoil and struggles and move forward and onward to more incredible experiences and challenges. It recognizes the importance of quality over quantity in people, a theme I believe all university students eventually come to terms with after graduation. It adds to the importance of finding value in people as a great and necessary asset to maintaining great mental health. I've added movement to the image with the inclusion of wind/breeze, it felt more melancholic and peaceful after the mayhem of nights university students experience in the cities. It connects with the idea of self-care, that sometimes we view giving ourselves priority as selfish. But to care for ourselves is to understand the effect of time, staying in destructive friendships and workplaces, etc. My artwork encapsulates this atmosphere of a new beginning.
