Multiple PhD positions available at UNSW Sydney, Fundamental Quantum Technologies Laboratory, School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications
We are seeking PhD candidates for an exciting research project on quantum information in higher dimensions. The project is led by Professor Andrea Morello, a pioneer of the field of spin-based quantum computing, and funded through an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship.
The project aims to encode and manipulate quantum information in the 8-dimensional Hilbert space of antimony donors in silicon. This system can accommodate error-corrected logical qubits within a single atom, enabling novel and efficient quantum error correction schemes.
The PhD candidates will work across a wide range of experimental and theoretical activities:
- Design and fabrication of silicon quantum devices with deterministic placement of donors atoms
- Quantum measurement, quantum control and quantum information processing
- Theory and experimental implementation of quantum error correction
UNSW offers competitive PhD stipends, $37,684 p.a. (tax-free), and the possibility of extra top-ups through the Sydney Quantum Academy, internal funds, and teaching assistance duties.
The research group of Andrea Morello is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic environment, famous for its groundbreaking research and its healthy, collaborative work style.
To apply, email Professor Andrea Morello (a.morello@unsw.edu.au) with the following details:
- A complete CV, including name and contacts of two references
- Undergraduate transcripts
- Copy of undergraduate thesis and other relevant research outputs
Candidates who are selected to proceed will need to apply to the formal PhD admission process of UNSW.
