Engage with us
Continually building a culture of engineering excellence.
Engineering a strong community
At the School of Engineering & Technology (SET), we believe our role extends beyond tertiary education.
This is why we’re dedicated to continually building and strengthening our culture of engineering excellence into the wider community, fostering the next generation of technology decision-makers that will shape Australia’s defence and security future.
Over the years, we’ve curated a range of initiatives to help support and enhance relevant skills, knowledge and opportunities within engineering and technology, ensuring the school grows stronger through an equitable, diverse and inclusive team unified by a strong commitment to education and research.
Work with SET
Wondering if you should partner with SET or become a valued staff member? Working with us has a plethora of benefits, including:
Diversity and inclusivity
We’re committed to ensuring everyone enjoys equal opportunities and value the benefit of different perspectives. To support our diverse community of students, we teach in teams of two or more, utilising a range of teaching methods.Continual innovation and initiatives

Partnerships with world-leading organisations
Delivering the best research requires strong partnerships. We have fostered positive relationships with government and industry partners over many years, sharing our knowledge and expertise and finding solutions to complex problems.
We’re proud to partner with world-leading organisations on research and educational initiatives, including:
- Australian Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG)
- US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AfOSR)
- Northrop Grumman
- BAE Systems
- Lockheed Martin Corporation
- French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES)
- Australian Space Agency
- ACT Government
Inspiring future engineers
We run several community events throughout the year to help promote the field of engineering and technology to young people. This provides them with hands-on experience of engineering, opening their eyes to the possibilities and showing them that they can make a real impact.
Young Women in Engineering (YoWIE)
This free three-day workshop is designed to inspire young women in years 9 – 12 to consider a future in engineering. The program aims to show young women how maths and science studies at school can help shape their future.
Participants have access to a range of hands-on activities and inspirational talks by practicing female engineers. They also have the chance to meet other like-minded young women in a fun and supportive environment. Find out more about how young women from around Australia are coming together to create the next generation of leaders in engineering.
Cool Aeronautics
Cool Aeronautics is the Royal Aeronautical Society’s (RAeS) STEM outreach program that introduces primary school children to the world of flying, aerospace engineering and space.
In collaboration with the RAeS, we host numerous activities and events on campus or at partner schools for local school students.
At these events, astronauts, test pilots, industry technology officers and space scientists often attend, representing the school’s effort to promote aerospace and aviation to a new generation.
These opportunities provide a rewarding platform to help our staff and students strengthen their communication skills and technical knowledge.
