About us

The study, called CogCoach-Health, is a randomised controlled trial about improving healthy brain ageing though lifestyle changes. It provides education and practical exercises for physical activity, diet, and social and cognitive activity to increase health related quality of life and reduce lifestyle risk factors for developing dementia.
The trial is conducted online and is accessible via computer, tablet or smartphone. Participants are randomised into one of two groups – CogCoach-Health Intervention or Email Information. CogCoach-Health Intervention participants will have access to online interactive educational components for 12 weeks. During these 12 weeks, they will also be offered two consultations sessions with a dietician and an exercise physiologist, one session with a researcher who has four years training in psychology or equivalent, continued phone support, and access to a brain-training app and an exercise app. Email Information participants will be emailed educational bulletins about cognitive health and risk factors for dementia. Following the 12 weeks, participants will be contacted three times (straight after the 12 weeks, after six months and after one year) via phone/internet to answer some questions about their questions about their diet and general lifestyle and complete memory and thinking tasks.
Our aim is to test the effectiveness of CogCoach-Health in older adults who experience subjective cognitive decline (SCD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) but do not yet have significant cognitive impairment. Our goal is for CogCoach-Health to become a useful and time saving evidence-based dementia risk reduction resource for general practitioners.
