Addi Moves is a free, culturally responsive and trauma informed physical activity service led by Accredited Exercise Physiologists.

The ‘not gym’ was set up after an extensive co-design process led by Dr Grace McKeon. Clients visiting the service include people experiencing mental illness, gender-based violence, food insecurity, as well as refugees and asylum seekers. Over 1,700 exercise sessions have been offered and 11 student Exercise Physiologists conducting placement at Addi Moves have attended 1,000 hours. The service is located at the Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville which serves as a hub for over 40 community organisations. Addi Moves is overseen A/Prof Simon Rosenbaum who co-leads the NExuS Research Group. International visitors have included Prof Jeroen Deenik (Maastricht University), Prof Brendon Stubbs (King’s College London), A/Prof Katharina Luttenberger (Universitätsklinikum Erlangen), Dr Michelle Pebole (Veteran Affairs Boston) and Laura Fischer and Sullivan Holderbach (Traumascapes, London).

Our space!

Thanks to our partners at CCCI and ECSC, we can offer over 12 different translations of our information flyers!
Joy of Giving kindly donated some toys for the children that accompany some of our participants.

Thread Together were kind enough to donate, set up and stock a wardrobe so that our participants can have options to move around more comfortably in our space for free.

The Books Unbound and Addi Moves Collaboration helps with creating a more inclusive environment for our participants.

“Pin your country” on our world map acts as a fun icebreaker, and a chance to share stories from home.
