Mining operations require high-precision geotechnical knowledge and advanced numerical techniques to ensure safety. Australia has unique mineral resources that require novel approaches. We focus on suitable mining methods that are capable of safe, efficient, and productive resource recovery.
Our research maintains Australia in its leading role in operating best practice mines and applying state of the art technologies, which leads to improved safety and increased productivity in mining operations. Applications include ground support and ground control, rockburst projects, mechanisms of floor heave, mine subsidence, corrosion failure, and seismic monitoring, numerical modelling of rock mass behaviour, and novel geotechnical methods.
We work collaboratively with our industry partners on mine safety and design, coupled geomechanical systems, and exploration/production systems.
