UNSW Canberra Space’s “Goliath” S-band antenna Cingulan Space

UNSW Canberra Space owns two satellite ground stations that enable us to communicate with and operate our spacecraft.

Our main ground station is an industrial-grade facility hosted by our partner Cingulan Space just outside the ACT border near Yass (NSW) in a radio-quiet environment.

The Yass ground station is our primary operational facility for satellite communications and operation. It supports UHF and S-band communications and has an in-house depended system to control the on-site equipment. The UHF link is primarily used for reliable telemetry collection and commanding our spacecraft, while the higher bandwidth S-band link is used for bulk data downloads such as imagery or radio recordings.

Our other ground station is located on the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) campus and serves as a backup, research and testing capability.
