Description of Work:

The Cultural Geography group undertake research projects in a wide range of topics spanning the social sciences and humanities. We specialize in drawing on conceptual innovations from social theory and continental philosophy as a way of enhancing our understandings of, and relationships to, diverse geographic problems, collectives and environments. 

We welcome PhD applicants in the areas of: 

  • social theory and continental philosophy (particularly process philosophy, post-structuralism, affect theory, assemblage theory, new materialism, feminist theory, science and technology studies, and post-humanism)
  • performativity in respect to habit, humour, and environmental politics
  • non-representational theory and methods
  • minor theory, politics and practice
  • material processes and cultures
  • emerging technologies and social-technical innovations (including in the domains of automation, algorithmic design, digital fabrication, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence)
  • arts-based, experimental and creative geographies
  • art-science intersections and collaborations (including in the domains of theatre, cinema, literature & creative writing, fashion & textiles, speculative design, visual art, bioart & biodesign, sound studies & music)

Desired background:

Scholarships of AUD$35,000 are available for PhD students who achieved H1 /High Distinction in their UG program and/or have completed a Masters by Research.
