The Academy Library  Course Readings team  work with academic staff to facilitate student access to required course resources. This service uses the Leganto platform to create dynamic course reading lists using relevant, current materials gathered from a range of electronic sources including the UNSW Library collections, multimedia resources and the internet.

Submitting course readings requests to the Academy Library

Academic staff are asked to email fully cited lists of resources for each course they want to provide readings for. Each course readings list must include the course name and code and be emailed to: coursereadings.cbr@unsw.edu.au

The Course Readings team will then process the lists (including digitising print items) and provide a linked Leganto reading list that can be added to the relevant Moodle course site.

The Course Readings team can also add high-demand items from its physical library collection to the onsite Course Readings Collection and digitise items (such as articles from print journals and chapters from print books) not currently available online.

For instructions on adding Leganto course reading lists to Moodle, see the Leganto Guide

Reusing an existing course readings list

Courses that already have a Leganto course readings list can choose to rollover the existing list for the next semester.  Rolling over course readings lists enables the reuse of permalinks and Moodle LTI links which will redirect students from a previous reading list to the new list.

Academic staff can request the rollover of a course reading list by emailing the Course Readings team at coursereadings.cbr@unsw.edu.au with the relevant course name and number.

About Leganto

Leganto is the preferred course materials management system for UNSW. This tool operates as a centralised online hub for sharing course materials.

Leganto makes it easy:

  • for staff to create and update course readings lists that students can access on any device
  • to comply with copyright restrictions by having the library team generate appropriate links to resources and verify the copyright status of materials
  • to promote engagement by allowing students to ‘like’ resources, make comments, and share recommendations with classmates and lecturers
  • to extract analytics on student interaction with course materials such as full-text access views
  • to update content and reuse lists from semester to semester.

Copyright guidelines

It's the responsibility of all staff to comply with copyright law, including the Copyright Act and any licensing agreements for the provision of electronic resources. UNSW staff can find out more about their copyright responsibilities by visiting Copyright (UNSW) or contacting the Course Readings team via coursereadings.cbr@unsw.edu.au
