The Materials and Manufacturing Futures Institute (‘MMFI’) has been moving at a very fast pace since our last e-news and I’m pleased to advise we have achieved some great results.
The Materials and Manufacturing Futures Institute (‘MMFI’) has been moving at a very fast pace since our last e-news and I’m pleased to advise we have achieved some great results.
Our premier event was taking a delegation to Jakarta for a successful visit with the Indonesian Coast Guard (“ICG”) at their Headquarters on 22nd July 2019. The delegation comprised of academics with expertise in Naval Architecture (David Lyons), Radar and Wireless Communication (Jinhong Yuan), Light Metals (Michael Ferry), Corrosion (Sammy Chan), Advanced Composite Materials (Mohammad Islam/Chun Wang) and Armor Technology (Sean Li). The delegation also presented a list of courses and training programs which will be available to the officers of ICG.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Information and Control Center of ICG, and the Navy Base, to understand the strategy and operation of ICG. It is now evident that MMFI can make a unique contribution to strengthen border security.
Thank you to Project Officer Bo Qu and LCDR Priyadi Hartoko, for their assistance in making this such a successful visit.
After two months of discussion led by Professor CheeMun Chong, Aiko Solar signed a research collaboration agreement where new ways will be found to improve the efficiency of Aiko solar cells (this collaboration is not related to UNSW’s advanced hydrogenation technology and there is no licensing of hydrogenation IP involved). This collaboration consists of a cash contribution of AUD$1 million, including an up-front payment of AUD$500,000 upon signing.
Aiko Solar was established in 2009 in Foshan in the Guangdong Province of China with a total investment in excess of 4 billion RMB. Aiko Solar is currently the largest PERC cell producer in the world and is also the largest bifacial PERC cell producer in the world. In Q2 of 2019, Aiko Solar achieved over 5GW of PERC cell shipment and expects to reach over 9GW capacity by the end of 2019.
Congratulations to Professor CheeMun Chong and thank you for your team’s contribution to MMFI and UNSW.
GRS has completed the MMFI scholarship allocation form and is attached for your reference. If you have received research funding from Industry which meets the criteria listed (must have been received after the MMFI launch date of 24 October 2018), please fill out the form and return to Kim Foster at k.foster@unsw.edu.au.
