    Adrian Bauman

    Oscar Lederman

    Oscar Lederman is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist at the Prince of Wales Hospital, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and PhD Candidate at the University of New South Wales. Oscar coordinates and supervises the Exercise Physiology program at Eastern Suburbs Mental Health and regularly provides education and training for mental health clinicians. His research has focused on physical health of youth at risk of psychosis and also motivational factors that influence physical activity participation for individuals with serious mental illness.

    Madeline Romaniuk

    Dr Madeline Romaniuk is the Senior Clinical Psychologist & Project Lead of the Veteran Mental Health Initiative at the Gallipoli Medical Research Institute. She holds a Visiting Research Fellow position at Queensland University of Technology as well as Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland. In addition to research, Dr Romaniuk has worked as a therapist since 2009 in a variety of settings including public and private hospitals, community government services, NGOs, and private practice. Dr Romaniuk specialises in the treatment of war veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

    Brian O'Donoghue

    Brian is a consultant psychiatrist with Orygen Youth Health, a youth mental health service in Melbourne, Australia and works in the early psychosis service. Brian is also a clinical research fellow with Orygen, the National Centre of Excellence in Youth mental Health and the University of Melbourne. Brian's research interest are in reducing the adverse events, such as poor physical health or coercion, that can be associated with treatment for a a psychotic disorder. Brian is originally from Dublin, Ireland and is a keen runner.

    Justin Chapman

    Justin has completed his PhD in measuring and positively influencing the physical activity patterns of adults with mental illness at The University of Queensland. He currently works with the Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) designing and implementing healthy lifestyle intervention programs for youth and adults recovering from mental illness. He also works with the Queensland Institute of Medical Research evaluating health-service based exercise programs for Indigenous adults with chronic health conditions, and with the Princess Alexandra Hospital advocating for consumer involvement in health intervention programs.

    Tracey Tsang

    Tracey a Senior Research Fellow for the Discipline of Paediatrics & Child Health, Sydney Medical School (USYD);.and an Assistant Director for the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Centre of Research Excellence. Her adolescent health and clinical research background is diverse, incorporating research into metabolic health (e.g., type 2 diabetes, obesity), physical activity, martial arts, intervention studies, ADHD, population health, and FASD. Her current paediatric research interests include behaviour problems and cognition, assessment of facial dysmorphology in FASD, development of screening tools for FASD, practice change, and impacts of prenatal alcohol exposure on development and function. Tracey’s work will include the refinement and validation of the SIMPAQ for use in children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders.

  • Felipe Schuch

    Prof. Felipe B Schuch (Unilasalle), Physical educator (UFRGS), Msc and PhD psychiatry (UFRGS) and post-doc student (UFRGS). He was awarded a PhD in 2015 from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul after leading a trial of exercise for major depressive disorder in inpatients, with a vote of honor. He is interested in the effects of exercise on major depressive disorder, its moderators, and its neurobiological correlates. Conducting a new clinical trial of physical activity promotion on outpatients with MDD.

  • Amal Abdel-Baki

    Researcher at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre. She is the director the First-Episode psychosis clinic at the University Hospital of Montreal and the president of the Quebec Association for First-Episode Psychosis Program. Her research interest, is among others, the non-pharmacological treatment of metabolic complication in psychosis.

    Currently enrolled in PhD programme in Clinical Psychology at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Works as a psychologist in assertive community team in Sdruzeni PRAH – the biggest provider of psychosocial support for people with mental health disorders in Moravia region and as an education coordinator in Projekt SPOLU.

    Prof. Tamás Kurimay, M.D., Ph.D, graduated at Semmelweis University Budapest. As a clinician, has got postgraduate specialty in psychiatry, psychotherapy (including family and cognitive therapy), addictionology, and rehabilitation also in supervision.

    He works in one of the largest regional hospital in Budapest, (Teaching Department of Semmelweis University) as the head and director of Buda Family Centred Health Centre. He initiated a family-oriented psychiatric approach, as well as the first Hungarian Baby-Mother – Father Unit into the hospital setting. The hospital and the Centre are affiliated to several universities.
    He is a professor at Eötvös Lóránt University and Ass. Semmelweis University, Budapest.

    He is a past-president of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association (HPA), currently chairman of HPA Committee of Foreign Affairs, Co-chair of the Sports Psychology and Exercise Section of HPA.
    Board member of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), and chair of the EPA Council of National Psychiatric Association.

    He is the Governmental Expert on Mental Health of Hungary for EU, WHO counterpart on Mental Health.

    In psychiatry and addiction research his main interests are how to utilize and influence the bio-psycho-social systems, sports-related topics, including exercise addiction, and networks including families.

    Zsolt Demetrovics

    Zsolt Demetrovics, PhD, DSc, is professor of psychology at the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary where he serves as dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology, director of the Institute of Psychology and head of the Department of Clinical Psychology & Addiction. He is clinical psychologist (specialized in addiction), cultural anthropologist, and has a Ph.D. in clinical and health psychology (addictive behaviors). He has published numerous research papers on the epidemiology, assessment and psychological correlates of substance use behavior and behavioral addictions including gambling, video gaming, internet addiction, exercise addiction, and compulsive buying. He is former president of the Hungarian Association on Addictions and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Behavioral Addictions.

    Bernadette Kun

    Bernadette Kun, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. She has a Ph.D. in clinical and health psychology (addictive behaviors) and has been working at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Addiction of ELTE since 2011. Her main expert fields are behavioral addictions such as gambling, compulsive buying, work addiction, and exercise addiction. She is an author of more than forty research papers on epidemiology, assessment and psychological correlates of behavioral addictions and substance use. Formerly, she had been working as a research associate and project leader at the Hungarian National Institute for Drug prevention for six years.

    Attila Szabo

    Attila Szabo (PhD, DSc) completed his undergraduate and postgraduate education at Concordia University (BSc in Psycholoy and MSc in Biology) and University of Montreal (PhD in "Sciences de l'activité physique"), in Montreal, Canada. Subsequently, he moved to the UK where he served the sport science teaching- and research-teams at Nottingham Trent University, first as Senior Lecturer then as Reader for nearly nine years. In 2005, Attila moved to Budapest, Hungary, where he currently works as a Professor of Psychology at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University. He was a BASES accredited researcher in Sport & Exercise Psychology (1999-2009), and he is an accredited teacher in higher education by Staff and Educational Development Association, (SEDA), which granted him membership in the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA). Attila has well over 150 publications, a similar number of conference presentations, nearly 3000 citations and a Hirsh Index of 35 (Google Scholar). In 2017 he was conferred the title of Doctor of Science (DSc) by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Among numerous well cited research, Attila's most notable contribution to science is the introduction research-data collection on the Internet - in 1996-97 - in the area of Psychology.

His PhD research is a Health Service Executive funded project which aims to develop the physical activity provision in Irish Mental Health services.   • Romaina Iqbal

    Dr. Romaina Iqbal is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Aga Khan University, in Pakistan. She is a public health nutritionist by training and her research interest is understanding the association between lifestyle risk factors i.e. diet and physical activity and non-communicable diseases in Pakistani population. A major, community based study that she is leading in Pakistan is PURE which aims to understand societal, behavioral and biological risk factors related with NCDs in individuals residing in rural and urban settings . Dr. Iqbal is also leading a physical activity and diet trial for prevention of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus in Pakistan.

    Zahra Hoodbhoy

    Dr Zahra Hoodbhoy is currently employed as a Senior Instructor, Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan. Her current work as a principal investigator includes the assessment of physical activity and other risk factors for non-communicable diseases in pregnant women and preschool children. She is also involved as a co-investigator in large scale community based projects in rural areas of Pakistan that aim to improve maternal health indicators in these regions.

  • Lara S.F. Carneiro

    In 2012 she was awarded a PhD fellowship from Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) to develop the study “Exercise as a complementary treatment of pharmacotherapy in patients with clinical depression”. In 2014 the Portuguese Olympic Committee and Millennium BCP Foundation awarded this research with the first prize of Psychology and Pedagogy in Sports, 2014. Her ongoing work provides contribution to understand exercise as medicine in the care of people with depressive disorders.

    Mats Hallgren

    Mats Hallgren PhD is a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. His research focuses on links between physical activity and mental health. Despite his very Swedish sounding name, Mats is an Australian!

    Po-Wen Ku is a professor in epidemiology of physical activity and health at the Graduate Institute of Sports & Health, National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan. He was awarded his first PhD (exercise and health) at the University of Bristol, UK and then received the second PhD (epidemiology) at the National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan.

    Li-Jung Chen is a professor at the Department of Exercise Health Science, National Taiwan University of Sport, Taiwan. She received her PhD in exercise and health from the Department of Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences, University of Bristol, UK. Her research interest is about physical activity, health-related behaviours and mental health.

    Prof Dr Marieke Pijnenborg is affiliated to the Department of Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology of the University of Groningen, in Groningen, The Netherlands, and is specialised in psychotic disorders. She works as a clinician at GGZ Drenthe, Assen, the Netherlands. She is one of the senior investigators of the BEATVIC trial, in which the effects of a body-oriented resilience training on victimization is evaluated.

    Elise van der Stouwe

    Elise van der Stouwe is a PhD candidate on the BEATVIC trial, in which the effects of a body-oriented resilience training with elements of kickboxing for individuals with psychosis is evaluated. Primary outcome of the intervention is victimization, in addition, the effects on risk factors of victimization (e.g. social cognitive deficits, aggression regulation problems), neuroimaging outcomes and physical outcomes are examined. Elise van der Stouwe is affiliated to the University Medical Center of Groningen, The Netherlands.

    Justin Boyan Han, is a graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles. He works under Dr. Sarah McEwen coordinating research studying the effect of exercise on population with chronic schizophrenia. Justin is very interested in the impact of physical activity on an individual’s mental health and wish to further study this topic when he pursues additional education in the field of clinical psychology. Aside from schizophrenia, Justin also has experience working with depression as well as autism spectrum disorder. He is currently also working as an Applied Behavior Analysis Instructor Lovaas Institute.

Dr. McEwen is the Director of the UCLA Exercise and Cognitive Health Neuroimaging Lab and Director of Exercise at the UCLA Aftercare Research Program and founder and Organizer for the UCLA Exercise and Cognition Research symposium and research interest group, an interdisciplinary research group that draws on the fields of psychology, neuroscience, exercise science, education and psychiatry. Her expertise lies in human neuroimaging, cognitive psychology and developing the tools to uncover the neurobiological mechanisms contributing to the risk, development and treatment of schizophrenia. Currently, Dr. McEwen's research projects all have the common goal to understand how novel physical activity lifestyle interventions can be easily implemented and promote brain plasticity to improve the lives of those living with severe mental illnesses, including: early and chronic schizophrenia, Parkinson's Disease, and older adults with mild cognitive impairment at-risk for Alzheimer's.

    Ian is a lecturer and chairman of the University of Zimbabwe Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences. His qualifications are DMLT, SDMLT, MSc Clinical Biochemistry, MBA, MPH and is currently working towards a PhD.
