Ravindu Abeysekara is a PhD Candidate in Politics and International relations at UNSW Canberra. He has been awarded a University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA). His PhD research focuses on the debt-trap diplomacy and lessons from South Asian Countries to Pacific Islands and vice versa. His main research interests include Geo-Politics, BRI Initiative, Political and Economic diplomacy. He has served for the Sri Lanka Navy for about 22 years and retired in April 2024. He holds three Masters Degrees namely, Masters in Conflict and Peace Studies from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Master of Engineering in Naval Weapon Science Technology from Naval University of Engineering, Wuhan, China and Master of Science in Defence and Strategic Studies from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. He has obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Goa University, India in year 2005.
