HDR Student
UNSW Canberra
School of Humanities & Social Sciences

Chris Bounds is a PhD candidate in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNSW Canberra. His thesis examines the role of memorials in Christian churches in mediating and ameliorating the grief and bereavement of Australians after the First World War and seeks to explore assumptions about the development of commemorations associated with the war. Memorials in religious buildings and the ritual practices associated with them were as important as commemoration in the secular space, in many cases preceded them and sometimes exceeded them in scope and intention.

Prior to his enrolment, Chris was an executive leader in secondary schools for 25 years. He holds a BA (Hons) in History and a LLB from the University of Sydney, a BTh from Sydney College of Divinity, as well as Masters degrees in Education (ACU) and History (UNE).
