Advice about program requirements (broadening minor, free electives, general education)
Students in the BE ME program are required to complete 240 UOC towards program requirements, comprising the following:
150 UOC Electrical Engineering Core
54 UOC Discipline Electives
36 UOC Broadening Electives
60 Days approved Industrial Training
Apart from the many professional engineering electives in the program taken at Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5 towards Core and Discipline Elective requirements, the BE ME program includes 36 UOC of a broadening discipline taken within UNSW Engineering or from another Faculty (minor, free electives). From this 36 UOC requirement, a minimum 24 UOC will be taken towards a broadening discipline (see below) and the remaining 0-12 UOC may be taken as free electives.
Students satisfy the broadening minor requirement of this program by completing 4-6 nominated courses in the disciplines of Music, Language, Psychology, Mathematics, or Physics (see note below), or by completing the requirements listed in one of the following disciplines:

Students should consult the minor structures in the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts for guidance on available courses in those disciplines. Confirmation on course selection for these broadening disciplines should be approved by your Program Authority prior to enrolment.
Industrial training
Students in the BE ME (Electrical Engineering) must complete a minimum of 60 days approved industrial training (WIL is a program requirement). This requirement allows you to graduate with real on-the-job experience and contributes to you meeting Engineers Australia expectations for a graduate from an accredited degree.
Further information on Industrial Training may be found here.
Program plans for broadening disciplines
As a general rule, students must plan to ensure they can complete all program requirements (core, discipline, broadening) within the minimum completion time and without conflicting class/term schedules. As each broadening discipline is offered by varying Schools and/or Faculties, it should be assumed that some courses are only run once a term, so forward planning is required.
Should you have any questions relating to your broadening discipline selections and/or enrolment, please contact Engineering Student Support Services for assistance.
