Overview

Simulation modelling is a prevailing technique to analyse complex systems and enables decision-makers to set up “what-if” questions about the effects of alternative pre-specified decisions on the system's performance.

This 3-days course for anyone who wants to start learning simulation modelling. The course will start from the very basics and gradually teach you the concepts of Discrete Event Simulation as well as Monte Carlo simulation modelling techniques. You will learn how to implement these techniques in the AnyLogic software environment, which will provide you with hands-on expertise and reinforce your simulation model development skills.

With the successful completion of the course, you will have the skill set to build simulation models and analyse the outputs produced by these models, which would help you in making better and more informed decisions.

Course content

In this course you will cover the topics of:

  • Introduction to Simulation and AnyLogic GUI

  • Java basics for AnyLogic

  • Monte-Carlo and Discrete Event Simulation Modelling in AnyLogic

  • Enhancing simulation models with Animation in AnyLogic

  • Statistical simulation input and output analysis

  • Simulation-based optimization

  • Dashboard development and interaction with data in external environments

  • Hands-on practices with cases from healthcare, inventory control, project management, and call-centers

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Build different kinds of simulation models for wide range of applications

  • Analyse simulation inputs and outputs

  • Identify and measure the risk via simulation models

  • Develop interactive state-of-art simulation dashboards

  • Design and conduct simulation-based optimization experiments

Who should attend

This is an introductory course for anyone interested in simulation modelling techniques using AnyLogic software. It is perfect for industry professionals seeking to gain a baseline understanding of the use of simulation models related to decision-making problems. The content in this course can be applied to address a wide range of problems ranging from Logistics to Health Care and more.

Prerequisites:

It is recommended that attendees have some familiarity with statistical methods before completing this course.

Facilitator

Dr Hasan Turan

Dr. Hasan TURAN is a Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, and the Research Lead at the Capability Systems Centre.  He is an expert on the development of data-driven solution methods and their application to complex decision-making problems arising in different domains.

Dr. Turan has been involved in several large-scale simulation projects funded by the Department of Defence. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate-level simulation courses and organizing simulation-related special sessions at various leading national and international scientific conferences.
