Dr. Mairead O'Connor is an academic and researcher specializing in information systems, with a particular emphasis on Inclusive Digital Design, Product Inclusion, and Digital Responsibility. Having initially focused on software development teams, agile methodologies, and remote work, her research has evolved to address broader societal implications of technology.

Her current work explores Inclusive Digital Design and its practical ramifications, including the development of technology products that cater to diverse user groups and needs. In addition to tackling Product Inclusion, Dr. O'Connor is engaged in studying Digital Responsibility, seeking to define ethical practices and sustainability in digital product development.

Her research has been informed by partnerships with industry stakeholders such as Microsoft, Dell EMC, Fidelity Investments, and the Centre for Inclusive Design, bridging the gap between academic inquiry and real-world applications.

As an educator, Dr. O'Connor is dedicated to imparting practical skills and knowledge to her students. She teaches Business Analysis and Agile Product Management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, often incorporating real-world problem-solving opportunities. For example, she has integrated industry projects related to the World Wildlife Fund and Microsoft into her curriculum, enabling students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world challenges.

Outside the academic sphere, Dr. O'Connor is a contributor to the Wall Street Journal and has offered her expertise to United Nations Women on issues related to technology.
